PROVIDENCE– Mayor David N. Cicilline announced today that the Providence Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Health and Rhode Island Hospital will offer free H1N1 Flu Shots to the public on Saturday, January 16th from 10am until 4pm at Mount Pleasant High School, 434 Mount Pleasant Avenue.
“I want to make sure that as many of our residents as possible have access to H1N1 vaccinations, which remain the best defense against contracting the H1N1 virus,” said Mayor Cicilline. “Now that the federal government has made additional vaccines available to the Health Department, I am pleased that we are able to provide a free H1N1 flu shot clinic here in Providence.”
Shots will be provided free-of-charge for anyone 18 years of age or older. People seeking shots for individuals under 18 are asked to contact their primary care physician. Mayor Cicilline strongly encouraged those who are most vulnerable to the effects of the flu to take advantage of the free vaccine. Those most vulnerable include residents 18 – 24 years old and individuals with chronic health issues. There are only 2000 doses of the vaccine available for this clinic so the shots will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Anyone seeking the H1N1 vaccination will need to complete a standard registration form and answer a few questions regarding allergies and pre-existing medical conditions.
For those unable to attend Saturday’s flu clinic in Providence, the Health Department is coordinating other free public H1N1 vaccination clinics throughout Rhode Island. Information on the dates and times of those public flu shot clinics can be found on the Health Department website: www.health.ri.gov or contact the Health Department’s Flu Hotline at 401-222-8022 Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm.
