    PRESS RELEASE

PROVIDENCE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT URGES MOTORISTS TO USE CAUTION DURING COMMUTE

Wet roads and freezing temperatures will result in icy roads and a slow commute during rush hour

PROVIDENCE, RIProvidence Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) Director Peter T. Gaynor is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution during the afternoon commute and throughout the evening.  The National Weather Service is predicting snowfall throughout the afternoon with a period of heavy wind.  Although only one-to-two inches of snow accumulation is predicted, wet roads combined with freezing temperatures will create icy, potentially hazardous conditions as early as 4pm.

Treating the Roads

The Department of Public Works crews will have all of its trucks on the road pre-treating the main roads, steep roads and hospital routes first with salt and sand before moving on to secondary roadways.
