PROVIDENCE – Mayor David N. Cicilline and Providence Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) Director Peter T. Gaynor are advising residents to be prepared for a major winter storm that is expected hit the Providence early Wednesday morning and continue into Thursday morning.
“We are expecting this to be a major winter storm with up to 12 inches of snow and heavy winds that are expected to cause power outages and dangerous driving conditions,” said Mayor Cicilline. “As the City prepares to respond to this storm, I’m urging residents to adhere to the parking ban and and to stay off the roads, if possible, so that crews plow the streets to make the streets safe for travel.”
Snow removal response
PEMA will coordinate the City’s response to the storm from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The Department of Public Works crews will begin pretreating the main roads at 5am, well in advance of the storm. Staff from the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services will be on hand to answer calls until 6:30pm Wednesday evening at 421-2489.
